Welcome Home 21 Fd Sqn (EOD)

Welcome home: Soldiers who trained the Afghan Army in bomb disposal have paraded through Saffron Walden in Essex to mark their return from Afghanistan. 21 Field Squadron, part of 101 Engineer Regiment based at Carver Barracks, in Wimbish, was part of the 400-strong Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Search Task Force comprising 23 units from the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force that returned from Operation Herrick 17 in April. The Task Force was responsible for the training of the Afghan National Army’s bomb disposal team in addition to their front line duties of searching for and destroying improvised explosive devices on the ground.

The Commanding Officer of 101 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Simon Stockley, said: “The officers and soldiers of 21 Field Squadron should be justifiably proud of what they achieved on operations in Afghanistan. They have assisted in restoring normality to communities ravaged by decades of conflict, whilst giving the Afghans the confidence to render safe the pernicious threat from the insurgent’s improvised explosive devices.”

Thank you from The Bombshells

Big big Thank You to everyone that supported our stall yesterday ... We raised in excess of £400 which is definitely an all time best! A massive thank you must go to Catherine Mayes our Chair for all the restaurant vouchers (£90 came from that alone). Also Alex N Kelly Thomson for all the great raffle prizes. The day would not have happened without The Bombshells helpers, Sasha GrantSam SandersAmanda Farrimond,Donna Mckenzie Hannigan, Louise and Andrea McCarthy. It was so hot but they sold teddies and raffle tickets non stop. Also thanks to Victoria Johnson and Rebecca Mcneill-Allen for selling tickets too. It was our Jacky Needhams last Open Day so I think we done well!

New routes for talented ex-Armed Forces personnel to become teachers:

A new scheme designed to make it easier for highly-skilled former members of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force to become teachers has been launched. 'Troops to Teachers' will provide teacher training opportunities to Service leavers - with significant extra benefits including salaries while training, bursaries and bespoke training. From September, Service leavers with degrees will be able to enrol on teacher training programmes with additional bespoke training and £2,000 bursary uplifts.

This totally exceeded all expectations and the support and generosity of everyone is truly humbling.  This has boosted our funds considerably.
